Pointon were determined to show Gt Ponton that the win they had against them in the cup was not a fluke and in preparation for the impending semi final against Ancaster the team was swapped around considerable to allow some boys to show the coach and the manager what they could do in unfamiliar positions - they did not dissapoint.
Coleby our very dependable goalkeeper was put up front as striker for the first half of the match and performed superbly, likewise Oliver played in goal, charlie B was put up front and Ryan had a stint up front. Joshua swapped between central defence and up front. All the other boys were in familiar positions and their superb performances allowed the other boys to adapt to their new positions - thank you lads.
Anyway the the first quarter was an evenly matched contest with a couple of attempts on goal by coleby and Gt Ponton and the Pointon defence were strong denying Gt Ponton.
In the second quarter supersub Ryan recieved the ball from Benjamin and put his size 10 boot (only guessing the size) and the ball in the back of the Gt Ponton net to give Pointon a deserved lead. Just before the half time whistle Gt Ponton won a corner and following a scuffle for the ball they managed to score to make it 1-1.
Oliver came out of goal for the second half and Coleby went back in and Harry came on for Ben. Almost straightaway Oliver was passed the ball by Joshua from defence and he shot and their goalkeeper fumbled the ball and all the training payed off and young Harry scorched up to the ball and scored Pointons second - well done Harry.
Pointon played some consistent football in this quarter and a series of attacks resulted in a corner which Joshua took and with an inswinger scored directly from the corner (the same thing he did against Gt Ponton in the away match earlier in the year).
Oliver had been threatening to score all match and following a plea by the manager to get in the middle for another corner taken by Joshua he duly headed the ball into the top corner.
Man of the Match went to Ryan C for his tremendous goal that gave the Pointon boys the drive to go on and win the game. Carl F also recieved a special merit award for his tenecious defending.
Well Done boys and we know if you play like that next week against Ancaster in the Semi finals of the Cup there is no reason why we can not be in the Final on May 13th at Navenby.
